The Buddy Files: The Case of the Lost Boy (Book 1) 小狗神探1:消失的
Publishers Weekly This chipper novel launches Butler's (The Truth About Truman School) Buddy Files series, narrated by a chatty golden retriever. After his owner Kayla and her father disappear, Buddy lands in the dreaded “P-O-U-N-D. We don't say it, we spell it.” His plan to escape and find them gets derailed when he's adopted by a boy named Connor (“What? No, you can't take me... I already have a family,” Buddy protests). Buddy's internal monologue can be both perceptive and amusing. He observes that Connor, who moved away from his father and friends after his parents' divorce, “smells sad,” and when the nine-year-old boy goes missing, the canine laments, “I feel like I am losing humans left and right.” Aided by sleuthing skills that Kayla taught him, a keen sense of smell, and a tip from an observant cat, Buddy locates Connor. It's a straightforward mystery, but readers should be drawn in by Buddy's exuberant voice and readily recognize the high stakes and emotions at play. The C

Kindergarten is just about to let out for the summer, and room9 is going on a field trip to a farm. All the children squeal withjoy--all but Junie B. Jones. 'Cause guess what? Farms are not my favorites. Junie B. Jones, hilarious heroine of more than a dozen well-lovedbooks, is mortally afraid of ponies. An imprudent babysitter onceallowed her to watch a cable TV show called When Ponies Attack, soa trip to a farm seems like the ultimate in reckless endangerment.Never mind the roosters, which, according to her classmate, MeanieJim, can peck your head to a nub. It takes some pretty fast talkingby Junie's parents, teacher, and the farmer himself to get Junie toparticipate in the field trip, where she has a surprisingly goodtime. Until she bonds with Peep, a fluffy little chick, only todiscover, to her horror, that Peep's destiny is to become arooster. Award-winning author Barbara Park has joined with illustratorDenise Brunkus to create a charmingly outrageous character with aprecocious y

Everybody's favorite sass-mouth first grader comes back for her23rd installment in this popularseries . This time around, Junie B. fends off astomach virus and earns a starring role in the Parent's Night play. The action starts with a bang--or rather, a "SPLAT-O!"--as one ofJunie B's classmates falls victim to a stomach virus right there inclass: "It was the disgustingest thing I ever saw. Also, the odorwas not delightful." But only after everyone improvises their ownvirus defenses ("We held our noses tight with our fingers. And wedidn't breathe for the whole rest of the morning") does the realexcitement in Room One begin. Poor, put-upon Mr. Scary has planneda special event for Parent's Night--a play about ChristopherColumbus. Junie B. lands a plum role ("I want to be the Pinta!Cause the Pinta was the fastest ship! And the fastest ship is thewinner ship. And the winner ship is the star !"), but as withall Junie endeavors, expect a bumpy voyage. The usual classroom crew is back, including Lennie, Herber

Junie B. Jones is Captain Field Day (Junie B. Jones, No. 16)
I chose to make this the first Junie B. Jones book I read andI wasn't disappointed. Junie B. is a realistic portrayal of anamusing and cute kindergartener. She's can also be ratherprecocious and self-centered at times and this story teaches animportant lesson about not being that way. The ending wassurprising and in my opinion pleasant, although everything did notwork out the way Junie had hoped, an unlikely hero emerged. As forJunie B.'s dialect, she speaks it like it is and I would agree thatparents should probably monitor reading of these stories.Neverthless, that doesn't detract from a great story.
