JULIUS CAESAR《裘力斯·凯撒》(ISBN=9780553212969)
From School Library Journal Grade5-8-One of the marks of Shakespeare's greatness is the continuedinterest in adapting his enduring works. This recording of JuliusCaesar is one in a series drawn from Leon Garfield's ShakespeareStories. Liberally sprinkled with lines from the original play, therecording presents a condensation of all five acts in a little morethan an hour. Beginning with a brief biography of the Bard, therecording then offers a thorough but not lengthy overview of theplay. All this sets the stage for Simon Russell Beale's well pacednarration. This Royal Shakespeare Company veteran moves soskillfully between story text and dialogue that at times it seemsas though there are several actors reading. Classic lines such as"Et tu. Brute" and "Friends, Romans, Countrymen " are rendered withfresh vigor. At the conclusion of the play, an article on"Shakespeare Today" offers suggestions to help youngsters have funwith Shakespeare. HOUSE OF MIRTH, THE(ISBN=9780553213201)
One of Wharton's earliest de*ions of her heroine, in thelibrary of her bachelor friend and sometime suitor Lawrence Selden, indicates that she appears "as though she were a captured dryadsubdued to the conventions of the drawing room." Indeed, hereinlies Lily's problem. She has, we're told, "been brought up to beornamental," and yet her spirit is larger than what this ancillaryrole requires. By today's standards she would be nothing more thana mild rebel, but in the era into which Wharton drops herunmercifully, this tiny spark of character, combined with numerousassaults by vicious society women and bad luck, ultimately rendersLily persona non grata. Her own ambivalence about her positionserves to open the door to disaster: several times she is on theverge of "good" marriage and squanders it at the last moment, unwilling to play by the rules of a society that produces, as shecalls them, "poor, miserable, marriageable girls.

LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER查特莱夫人的情人(ISBN=9780553212624)
Amazon.com Perhaps the most famous ofLawrence's novels, the 1928 Lady Chatterley's Lover is nolonger distinguished for the once-shockingly explicit treatment ofits subject matter--the adulterous affair between a sexuallyunfulfilled upper-class married woman and the game keeper who worksfor the estate owned by her wheelchaired husband. Now that we'reused to reading about sex, and seeing it in the movies, it'sapparent that the novel is memorable for better reasons: namely, that Lawrence was a masterful and lyrical writer, whose story takesus bodily into the world of its characters. --This text refersto the Paperback edition.

作者简介 Herman Melville was born in 1819 in New York City. After his father's death he left school for a series of clerical jobs before going to sea as a young man of nineteen. At twenty-one he shipped aboard the whaler Acushnet and began a series of adventures in the South Seas that would last for three years and form the basis for his first two novels, Typee and Omoo. Although these two novels sold well and gained for Melville a measure of fame, nineteenth-century readers were puzzled by the experiments with form that he began with his third novel, Mardi, and continued brilliantly in his masterpiece, Moby-Dick. During his later years spent working as a customs inspector on the New York docks, Melville published only poems, compiled in a collection entitled Battle-Pieces, and died in 1891 with Billy Budd, Sailor, now considered a classic, still unpublished.
