Grade 2-5 In an odd wordless picture book about a dream, a fair-haired boy falls asleep while reading an ominous looking atlas. As he floats through sky and slumber, the boy's green checked bedspread is transformed into an aerial view of the earth. He then descends upon an enormous chess board complete with mortal playing pieces. This medieval welcoming party leads the youngster to their mazed castle where he continues his search (although this is not always clear) for an elusive map. The nameless protagonist's ensuing adventures are confusing, complicated, and illogical. Transformations abound in this surrealistic universe. Floating leaves change into swans, fortress walls become dragons, building fronts turn into mountains. The influence of such literary classics as Gulliver's Travels, The Wizard of Oz, and The Water-Babies, along with the artistry of Raphael, Escher, and Sendak, is apparent. Soft shades of green, blue, and yellow dominate the action. Technical virtuosity is the trademark of the doubl

Dr.Seuss The Sneetches and Other Stories(ISBN:9780007158508)
Amazon.com Review "Now, the Star-BellySneetches / Had bellies with stars. / The Plain-Belly Sneetches /Had none upon thars." This collection of four of Dr. Seuss's mostwinning stories begins with that unforgettable tale of theunfortunate Sneetches, bamboozled by one Sylvester McMonkey McBean("the Fix-it-up Chappie"), who teaches them that pointlessprejudice can be costly. Following the Sneetches, a South-Going Zaxand a North-Going Zax seem determined to butt heads on the prairieof Prax. Then there's the tongue-twisting story of Mrs. McCave--youknow, the one who had 23 sons and named them all Dave. (Sherealizes that she'd be far less confused had she given themdifferent names, like Marvin O'Gravel Balloon Face or ZanzibarBuck-Buck McFate.) A slightly spooky adventure involving a pair ofhaunted trousers--"What was I scared of?"--closes out thecollection. Sneetches and Other Stories is Seuss at hisbest, with distinctively wacky illustrations and ingeniously weirdprose. (Ages 4 to 8) --Paul Hughes --This

Dr. Seuss Ten Apples Up On Top(ISBN:9780007169979)
Amazon.com Review Since 1961, TenApples up on Top has been helping preschoolers learn to countand read simultaneously. Simple illustrations and even simplerrhymes make this apple-balancing competition between a dog, atiger, and a lion a fun, easy place to practice sight words andphonics. Siblings can even take turns reading phrases like "Sevenapples up on top. I am so good they will not drop." The inevitabletumbling crash is a great climax for busy toddlers to enjoy, andparents will appreciate the cooperative lesson the last pageoffers. Old Macdonald Had a Farm 唐纳德的农场(超大地板书)
Customer Reviews A great way to teach animals, sounds, and love of reading, August11, 2004 Reviewer: S. D Haynie "girlranger" (carlsbad, nm UnitedStates) We like this book because each page reveals a new animal that washiding on Old MacDonald's farm. Each page also reveals the noisethat animal makes right along with the famous kids' song. Thecutouts, hidden animals, escalating noise on the farm, and thefarmer's increasing discomfort make for a fun read. At the veryend, a whole new slew of animals and noises are presented, just incase you still have breath in you to keep on singing. The illustrations are fantastic. They are fun, colorful, andpresent animals behaving in pretty funny ways. This is a repeat read, as so many kids' books are.

"Did you ever fly a kite in bed? Did you ever walk with tencats on your head?" Such are the profound, philosophical queriesposed in this well-loved classic by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel. While many rhymes in this couplet collection resemble sphinx-worthyriddles, Seuss's intention is clear: teach children to read in away that is both entertaining and educational. It matters littlethat each wonderful vignette has nothing to do with the one thatfollows. (We move seamlessly from a one-humped Wump and Mister Gumpto yellow pets called the Zeds with one hair upon their heads.)Children today will be as entranced by these ridiculous rhymes asthey have been since the book's original publication in 1960--soamused and enchanted, in fact, they may not even notice they arelearning to read! Dr.Seuss Hop on Pop 苏斯博士(ISBN:9780007158492)
First published in 1963, Hop on Pop remains a perennial favorite when it comes to teaching kids to read. Here, as in most of his extensive body of work, Dr. Seuss creates uncomplicated, monosyllabic rhymes to foster learning and inspire children to read. But what was radical about this little book at the time of publication (and what makes it still compelling today) is Seuss''s departure from the traditionally dull pictures and sentences used in reading primers. In contrast, the illustrations here are wild and wonderful, and the accompanying language, while simple, is delightfully silly. For example, the rhyme "THREE TREE / Three fish in a tree / Fish in a tree? / How can that be?" is brought to life with a trio of plump, self-satisfied fish perched atop globular branches as two stymied hybrid dog-rabbit-humanoids look on in consternation. Hop on Pop does much more than teach children the basics of word construction, it also introduces them to the incomparable pleasure of reading a book. (Ages Baby to
