Customer Reviews A Historical Classic, 17Mar 1999 Reviewer: A reader This book captures the words that have changed history. Andcontrary to some senator's beliefs, this country is still obviouslyrun by the people. That is WHY polls are important. Yes, of courselaws have been broken, lies told, deceit laid upon the people, butwhat is new? Are we so much more advanced than the people who wrotethe original words in this book were? Or would we like to think weare superior? If sex, lies, and videotapes were such a derogatoryissue, then Presidents would be removed from office for it. The best part of this collection of essays remarking on the O.J. Simpson case is the reminder that what we saw on television andread in the newspaper wasn't the whole story. The authors--lawyersand academics for the most part--aren't primarily interested inquestions of guilt or innocence. Instead, they look at themarketing of the Simpson trial and the falseness of the "raceneutral" concept when applied to the trial and its aftermath. Inthe end, it's hard to disagree with AnnDucille , who concludes that "If we are notactually the worse for it all . . . we have most certainly beenshown at our worst by it."
